Réflexions sur l'exécution d'Oussama ben Laden

Ben Laden était seulement une partie d'Al-Qaïda qui est juste une partie de l'effort terroriste islamique qui est juste une partie du mouvement islamiste, aussi l'annonce de sa mort cette nuit par le gouvernement américain fait peu de différences dans le fonctionnement des choses. La guerre contre le terrorisme n'a pas fondamentalement changé et elle est loin d'être gagnée.

Une foule s'est réunie spontanément devant la Maison Blanche pour célébrer la mort d'Oussama ben Laden.

Mais parce que ben Laden a symbolisé la terreur islamique, sa présence provocante via des enregistrements vidéo et audio pendant près de dix ans après le 11 septembre a dynamisé ses alliés et frustré ses ennemis. En revanche, son exécution par les forces américaines à Abbottabad, au Pakistan , rend les Américains fiers de leur pays, encourage les organisations de sécurité et de renseignement, et est un coup dur pour les islamistes.

Ce qu'il faut surveiller pour l'avenir:

1. Du côté américain, l'unanimité soudaine et la fierté dureront-elles plus de quelques jours? Ou la réticence habituelle de la gauche reviendra-t-elle en place brusquement?

2. Concernant les islamistes, jusqu'où ira la violence de leur réaction vis-à-vis du gouvernement Zardari qui a consenti à ce que les forces américaines tuent Ben Laden sur le sol pakistanais? Et combien d'Américains et d'intérêts américains à l'étranger et à l'intérieur feront l'objet d'attaques terroristes en réponse à l'exécution du leader symbolique du jihad?
